A critical take on the Irish screen industries
Irish Screen looks at contemporary and historic issues in the Irish screen industries – film, television drama, documentary, and other content and cultural production areas. The primary focus is on the structure of these industries, rather than the content they produce.
This blog’s main interest lies in how the screen industries are funded, and the legislative and regulatory structures underpinning these funding mechanisms. As it is also interested in the screen industries as workplaces, there is further emphasis on labour relations, employment quality and related issues.
The blog is written and maintained by Denis Murphy, who is a Government of Ireland Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Trinity College Dublin’s School of Creative Arts, Film Department. He is currently completing a book on the labour history of Irish screen drama production, funded by the Irish Research Council. The book will be published by Liverpool University Press in 2022.
